Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has continued to show unwavering support for victims of police brutality, this time by visiting the family of Boniface Kariuki in Murang’a. Kariuki was shot during recent anti-government protests, sparking national outrage and a wave of solidarity.
Omondi visited Kariuki’s home to console his family and rallied Kenyans to support them both financially and emotionally. Speaking during the visit, Omondi emphasized that the family comes from a very humble background and is struggling to cope with the medical expenses and the aftermath of the tragic incident.
“We want to support them with the hospital bill, with a business for the father and the mother as well as Boniface once he recovers,” Omondi said. He urged Kenyans of goodwill to contribute whatever they can to the family, directing donations to Kariuki’s mother, Susan Nyambura, through the number 0700 463 254.
The appeal struck an emotional chord, especially after Kariuki’s parents made heartfelt pleas for prayers and support from the public. “I don’t have much to say, but I am pleading with Kenyans to support us not only financially but also in prayers for our son to get well,” said Susan.
Since the incident went viral, Omondi has been at the forefront of raising awareness and demanding justice. As part of his ongoing initiative Team Sisi Kwa Sisi, he has organized a national solidarity campaign, calling on Kenyans to wear masks this Friday to show unity with Kariuki.
“I am calling upon Kenyans all over the country, this Friday let’s all wear masks in solidarity with our brother Boniface Kariuki,” he posted on X.
The Team Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, founded by Omondi, has been instrumental in assisting struggling families through various crises. It has helped clear hospital bills, build homes, and start businesses for those in need.
Omondi’s latest efforts underscore his commitment to grassroots activism and the power of community support during times of hardship. As the nation prays for Kariuki’s recovery, many are answering the call to stand with the family sisi kwa sisi.
