Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has strongly criticised Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. He accused him of betraying the Luhya community by surrendering the Amani National Congress (ANC) party to President William Ruto.
Wamalwa made the remarks on Saturday, September 13, 2025, during a political rally in Malava, Kakamega County. He urged residents not to be deceived into supporting the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Luhya Political History
The former Cabinet Secretary reminded the crowd of the community’s long-standing role in Kenya’s leadership. He noted that the region has produced three deputy presidents in the past: Musalia Mudavadi, Kijana Wamalwa, and Moody Awori.
“Tumetoa naibu rais wa Kenya watatu… Mnataka tena tuwe number mbili? Mko tayari kutoa number moja?” Wamalwa asked. His message was clear: it is time for the Luhya community to push for the top seat instead of settling for second place.
Wamalwa’s Attack on Mudavadi
In a direct attack, Wamalwa accused Mudavadi of selling out the community’s political future.
“Musalia Mudavadi amechukua ANC, chama chenyu, ameuza kwa Zakayo,” Wamalwa said, referring to President Ruto with a nickname often used in rallies.
He argued that Mudavadi’s decision to merge ANC with UDA has stripped the Luhya community of a key bargaining tool in future elections.
A Call for Unity
Wamalwa urged the region to unite and chart a new course. According to him, continued loyalty to UDA will leave the community sidelined in the 2027 elections.
His remarks point to growing competition for the Western Kenya political base. They also suggest that Wamalwa may be preparing to position himself as a leading voice for the presidency.
