Ezekiel Mutua, popularly known as Kenya’s “moral cop,” has revealed that he once predicted former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s rise to power 11 years before it happened.
In a post shared on Sunday, October 26, 2025, to mark Uhuru’s birthday, Mutua recounted his time working as one of Uhuru’s communications advisors during his first presidential campaign in 2002. According to Mutua, the two operated from Chancery House in Nairobi, where he helped craft Uhuru’s early campaign messages.
“The year 2002: with my client Uhuru Kenyatta at Chancery House, Nairobi. I served as one of his communications advisors when he first ran for president. We didn’t make it in that first attempt, but I told my candidate that he would one day become president. Eleven years later, it came to pass. The rest, as they say, is history! Happy birthday, former President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Mutua wrote.
At the time, Uhuru ran under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket but lost to Mwai Kibaki of the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC). Despite the setback, Mutua said he remained confident that Uhuru’s political destiny would eventually be fulfilled.
His prophecy came true in 2013 when Uhuru made a successful comeback, winning the presidency and serving two consecutive terms until 2022.
Mutua’s revelation offers a rare glimpse into his earlier years before becoming a household name for his strict moral stance as the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO. He described his work with Uhuru as a defining moment in his communications career, giving him firsthand experience in high-level political strategy.
As Kenyans flooded social media with birthday messages for the former Head of State, Mutua’s nostalgic tribute stood out—highlighting not only a personal connection but also a moment of foresight that shaped Kenya’s political history.
