Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has applauded advocates who staged a peaceful protest in Nairobi on Friday, September 12, 2025.
The protest followed the brutal killing of Senior Advocate Kyalo Mbobu, whose assassination shocked the legal fraternity and the nation.
The Purple Ribbon March
The demonstration, known as the Purple Ribbon March, began at Milimani Law Courts. It then moved through Kenyatta Avenue before ending at Jogoo House, the police headquarters.
Hundreds of lawyers and members of the public joined the march. They carried placards calling for swift arrests and accountability. Their slogan was clear: justice delayed is justice denied.
Odhiambo’s Message
Through her X account, Odhiambo thanked lawyers and citizens for standing in solidarity. She said the strong turnout proved that Kenya’s legal community remains unshaken in the face of threats and intimidation.
She also reminded Kenyans that Article 37 of the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to demonstrate and petition peacefully.
“Our resounding call through the Petition we presented to the National Police Service is that as we advocate for justice, there must be justice for Advocates,” she wrote.
Odhiambo further paid tribute to Mbobu. She described him as a legal scholar, a respected practitioner, and a former chair of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal. She said his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
How Kyalo Mbobu Was Killed
Mbobu was assassinated earlier this week. CCTV footage showed a man trailing him outside Town House in Nairobi before he was attacked along Magadi Road.
Government pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed that Mbobu was shot eight times with high-lethality bullets.
A Call for Justice
The march took place a day after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered police to submit a full report on the killing within seven days.
Lawyers are now calling for urgent protection of advocates and stronger measures against impunity.
“May Senior Mbobu rest in eternal light. I thank all members for uniting in the common cause for Justice,” Odhiambo concluded.
