Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei has officially launched the Chalan Foundation, a family initiative aimed at uplifting vulnerable children and communities across Kenya. The launch took place on Saturday evening at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, and was attended by senior government officials, including Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who served as the chief guest.
Other dignitaries at the event included Principal Secretaries Raymond Omollo (Interior), Julius Bitok (Education), Paul Rono (Agriculture), Belio Kipsang (Immigration), John Tanui (ICT), Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Affairs), Mary Kimonye (Public Service), and NLC CEO Kabale Tache Arero.
Speaking during the launch, Koskei highlighted the foundation’s mission. “The Chalan Foundation is a family initiative that seeks to transform the lives of vulnerable children, young people, and communities through inclusive education, life skills, psychosocial support, and economic empowerment,” he said.
Founded in 2013, the foundation has already impacted over 121,000 children in underserved counties such as Nandi, Turkana, Samburu, Kitui, Kajiado, Pokot, and Homa Bay. Koskei emphasized that he would leverage his network and resources to further the foundation’s objectives, which are led by his wife, Margaret Koskei.
Health CS Aden Duale praised the foundation’s role in community development, noting, “This vision aligns closely with the health sector’s mandate, as true wellbeing extends beyond medical care to include education, livelihoods, and sustainable development.”
The Chalan Foundation is governed by Margaret Koskei, Dr. Loice Rono, and lawyer Diane Rotich Siboe. Its strategic plan focuses on equipping learners with lifelong skills, fostering inclusive systems, and creating holistic ecosystems that support wellbeing. The foundation emphasizes life skills development, digital literacy, leadership cultivation, and social resilience to prepare Kenya’s youth for the challenges of a rapidly evolving continent.
Koskei concluded the launch with a call to action, urging partners and supporters to join in “lighting hope and leaving footprints” in the lives of Kenya’s vulnerable communities.
