A multi-agency security team has arrested five suspects linked to the recent killing of a police officer and several violent crimes across the region. The arrests were made following a coordinated intelligence-led operation spearheaded by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in collaboration with the Crime Research Bureau and their Nakuru counterparts.
The daring raid, executed over the weekend, resulted in the flushing out of the gang members from their hideouts. After intensive interrogation, the suspects led the officers to the Rhonda area, where the team recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in the crime spree. According to Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara, the rifle bearing serial number 18916 was found hidden in dry grass near a residential home. It was loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
Authorities say the gang had instilled fear among Nakuru residents through a series of brutal attacks. Their most heinous act occurred on the night of June 1, 2025, when they ambushed police officers on foot patrol. One officer was fatally shot, and two others sustained injuries.
In another chilling incident, the gang staged a violent robbery at a shop in the Soilo area. Armed with machetes and daggers, they attacked the 24-year-old shop owner before looting hundreds of thousands of shillings. They then dragged the wounded victim outside and fatally shot him in cold blood.
Additionally, police confirmed that three of the suspects were involved in yet another robbery, during which they stormed a shop and demanded cash and valuables. In the ensuing confrontation, they shot 23-year-old Duncan Elias Mwambili in the stomach. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Commissioner Kibaara commended the swift operation, stating that while justice will take its course, the arrest of the five suspects marks a step toward restoring peace and security in Nakuru. Investigations are ongoing as the authorities pursue other possible accomplices and seek to ensure justice for the victims
