National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has confirmed that Ford Kenya will support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election. Speaking during a thanksgiving service for Wakili Leonard Shimaka in Lunyinya, Kakamega County, Wetang’ula emphasised unity within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition and announced the party’s full backing of David Ndakwa, who emerged victorious in the UDA nominations.
“As Ford Kenya, we are committed to supporting the Kenya Kwanza candidate in the Malava by-elections, and we will strongly compete against other contenders,” Wetang’ula said.
He underscored the importance of peaceful coexistence, urging residents to embrace the spirit of togetherness despite political competition. “All candidates are like our own children, and we must work together to advance our region. A true leader prioritises the greater good over personal interests,” he added.
Ndakwa, the Kabras West MCA and Kakamega County Minority Leader, secured the UDA ticket after garnering 6,477 votes. He defeated Ryan Malulu, son of the late MP, who came second with 3,783 votes. Leonard Shimaka received 1,192 votes, while Simon Kangwana closed the race with 1,064 votes.
Wetang’ula praised all contestants, particularly Malulu, urging him to focus on his professional career and rejoin politics in the future. He further revealed plans to bring together all losing aspirants to campaign as a united front for Ndakwa, ensuring Kenya Kwanza presents a cohesive message.
“We are a country of peace-loving Kenyans. In any competition, there is always a winner. We should be able to agree to disagree and move forward,” Wetang’ula noted.
The Malava mini poll is expected to be hotly contested as other parties prepare to unveil their candidates. For Kenya Kwanza, the endorsement signals a consolidated strategy aimed at securing victory in the constituency.
