Residents of Pipeline are reeling in shock after a horrific incident in which a former police officer brutally murdered his wife, 27-year-old Susan Nabwire, and sexually assaulted their house help. The tragic event occurred on the night of August 13, leaving the community shaken and raising fresh concerns about rising cases of domestic violence.
According to Nabwire’s mother, the 44-year-old suspect returned home that evening in a foul mood and accused his wife of infidelity. He reportedly demanded access to her phone, social media passwords, and mobile money PIN. When she refused, the man’s anger escalated.
“He removed his clothes and forced her to take pictures with him. Later, he kept quarreling with her throughout the night,” Nabwire’s mother recounted.
At around 3 a.m., the confrontation turned fatal. The man allegedly retrieved an axe from the bathroom and launched a violent attack. Witnesses say he struck Nabwire on the neck and head before strangling her with a rope. In a shocking act of cruelty, he also stabbed her in the eyes while declaring he would kill her as she watched herself die.
The suspect then shoved his wife’s lifeless body under the bed before turning on the house help. She recalled that he sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene, locking the toddler, the house help, and Nabwire’s body inside.
Police officers forced entry into the house and moved the deceased’s body to Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary. Meanwhile, the traumatized house help and Nabwire’s one-year-old child were rescued.
After more than a week on the run, the suspect was apprehended on Saturday, August 23. He is currently being held at Embakasi Police Station, awaiting arraignment.
The incident has sparked outrage among family members, neighbors, and rights activists, who are calling for justice for Nabwire and protection for survivors of gender-based violence.
“This is not just a family matter; it is a crime against humanity. We cannot normalize such brutality,” said one resident.
As the case heads to court, Nabwire’s family is left grieving a young mother whose life was cut short in the most harrowing way.
