Fresh questions have emerged over the conduct of police officers involved in the final moments of teacher and social media influencer Albert Ojwang’s life, after new CCTV footage revealed troubling details of his arrival at Mbagathi Hospital.
The 40-minute surveillance footage,, shows a police and Cruiser pulling into the Mbagathi Hospital compound at exactly 1:35 a.m. on June 8, 2025. Despite being brought in ostensibly as a medical emergency, Ojwang remained unattended for at least ten minutes as officers appeared to prioritize phone calls over urgent care.
The video shows two officers alighting and walking toward the emergency wing, while a third, the driver, followed slowly. One officer received a phone call midway, prompting the others to follow him back outside. For nearly three minutes, the three officers stood outside, engaged on their phones, while Ojwang lay in the rear of the police vehicle.
At 1:40 a.m., two officers re-entered the hospital, emerging six minutes later with a stretcher. With assistance from a hospital security guard, they wheeled Ojwang into the casualty ward at 1:59 a.m.—a full 24 minutes after their arrival.
Medical personnel confirmed at 2:09 a.m. that Ojwang had been brought in dead. The Mbagathi incident report noted he was unresponsive, had no cardiac activity, and that his body was cold. Visible injuries, including facial swelling and a cut at the back of his head, suggested prior trauma.
At 2:10 a.m., police were seen wheeling his body out of the hospital, departing five minutes later for City Mortuary. There, the body was formally received and later identified by his family.
Ojwang’s death has sparked public outrage, with human rights groups and political leaders demanding accountability. Many are questioning the officers’ actions, especially the delay in seeking help and failure to check on his condition.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s arrest, detention, and death remain ongoing. The footage adds pressure on authorities to provide answers and take action against any misconduct.
