Gabriel Oguda, a close ally and ardent supporter of the late ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, has shared details of his final conversation with the former Prime Minister just days before his death.
In a heartfelt post shared on his X account on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Oguda revealed that Raila had called him twice on Monday afternoon. The post included a screenshot showing a series of WhatsApp voice calls between the two, giving a rare glimpse into one of Raila’s final interactions before his untimely passing.
According to Oguda, Raila first attempted to reach him at 3:33 pm and 3:36 pm, but both calls went unanswered. At 4:11 pm, Oguda tried to return the call but did not connect. They finally spoke at 4:21 pm for about two minutes. Later that evening, at 6:36 pm, Raila reportedly called again for 28 seconds.
“Twice I missed Baba’s call on Monday,” Oguda wrote. “He called back again after I returned his call and didn’t connect. After speaking for two minutes, he called me back again immediately to pass on a message he had missed during the earlier call. I am lost for words.”
Oguda’s revelation has since gone viral, with Kenyans flooding social media to express their grief and disbelief that he was among the last to speak with the opposition leader.
Following the announcement of Raila Odinga’s death at an Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre in Kerala, India, President William Ruto declared seven days of national mourning.
In his address from State House, Nairobi, Ruto hailed Raila as “a giant in Kenya’s democratic landscape” and “a true statesman whose legacy will continue to inspire unity, justice, and progress.”
“Raila’s vision and courage helped shape the course of our nation’s history, guiding Kenya through some of its most defining moments,” Ruto said in a solemn tribute.
