Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled his priorities if elected president in 2027. He promises major reforms in education, healthcare, and taxation, aiming to ease the financial burden on Kenyan families.
Education at the Core
Speaking during a rally in Ruiru, Kiambu County, Gachagua said his first action would be to restore free education. He praised the late President Mwai Kibaki for introducing the program and argued that it must be strengthened.
“The first thing I will do if elected president is to ensure that our children truly access free education, as was introduced by the late Mwai Kibaki,” he told supporters.
He noted that many families still struggle with school-related costs despite the government’s pledge of free basic education.
Health Reforms
Gachagua also promised to prioritize healthcare. His plan includes reviving free maternity services, a program he said would reduce costs for families and improve maternal and child health.
Tax Relief for Citizens
Turning to economic matters, Gachagua declared that he would abolish the housing levy introduced by the current administration. He argued that the levy has added unnecessary pressure on already struggling Kenyans.
“These are the burdens we must lift from Kenyans if we want a nation where citizens thrive,” he said.
Targeting 2027
The former DP has made it clear that he intends to challenge President William Ruto in 2027. He positioned himself as the candidate with practical solutions to Kenya’s economic and social problems.
Confident of his growing support, he quipped: “The medicine to remove Ruto is Riggy G.” The statement sparked cheers from the crowd.
As the 2027 race begins to take shape, Gachagua’s early declarations highlight the policies he will campaign on, setting up a competitive presidential contest.
