Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Mt Kenya Members of Parliament of acting on President William Ruto’s orders to sabotage his public appearances. Speaking on Sunday at AIPCA Gatumbi Church in Lari, Kiambu County, Gachagua claimed that lawmakers aligned with President Ruto are funding youth groups to disrupt his events, including hurling stones at his motorcade.
Gachagua painted the disruptions as a calculated effort to erode his influence in the region. “They are paying our youths to cause chaos, while youths from other regions, including the President’s backyard, are being given military, police, and KRA jobs,” he said. “Our leaders are either blind or complicit. How foolish can they be?”
In a rare escalation of hostilities within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, Gachagua further demanded that President Ruto formally apologize to families affected by the 2007/2008 Kiambaa Church massacre. He urged Ruto to meet the victims’ families, issue an official apology, and provide compensation.
The outspoken former DP also criticized the President’s handling of the recent Gen Z-led protests. He described Ruto’s response to the alleged killings and abductions of youth as “casual and insensitive,” insisting that the Head of State must meet affected families and offer a credible plan for justice and accountability.
Mocking Kenya Kwanza leaders who dismiss the opposition as directionless, Gachagua declared that removing Ruto from power in 2027 is the opposition’s central strategy. He promised to campaign vigorously to ensure that Mt Kenya MPs who, in his view, have betrayed their constituents are voted out.
“You will face the wrath of the people from Mt Kenya come 2027,” Gachagua warned, signaling a deepening rift in the ruling coalition and setting the stage for an intense political showdown ahead of the next general election.
