Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed the vital role of the Kenyan diaspora in shaping the country’s political and economic direction during an engagement with Kenyans living in Texas. Speaking in Richardson, Dallas, as part of his ongoing U.S. tour, Gachagua lauded the diaspora for their patriotism and continued interest in national affairs.
Addressing a packed interactive forum, Gachagua emphasized that the diaspora community, through remittances and foreign exchange, continues to make a major contribution to Kenya’s economy. He called for their greater inclusion in conversations about the nation’s future, especially in areas of political reform and economic recovery.
“I thanked them for their patriotism and continued voice on matters Kenya,” said Gachagua. “We discussed several issues, including electoral justice, politics and governance, constitutionalism, youth and GenZ participation in governance, and, more importantly, the state of our economy.”
He assured attendees that he had taken note of their concerns and pledged to continue pushing for a national renewal agenda that prioritizes accountability, constitutionalism, and economic liberation. According to Gachagua, there is a growing consensus among Kenyans both at home and abroad on the need to tackle systemic issues like corruption, extrajudicial killings, police brutality, and discrimination against women and the youth.
“We must re-boot the economic, political, and moral direction of our country for the good of our future and generations to come,” he stated.
Gachagua’s Texas stop is part of a broader outreach initiative aimed at strengthening ties with the diaspora and building support for the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which he describes as a platform for transformative leadership and economic justice.
The former DP’s remarks come at a time when Kenyans abroad are increasingly vocal about governance issues back home, with growing calls for diaspora voting rights, accountability from leaders, and inclusive national dialogue.
Gachagua’s U.S. tour reflects a strategic effort to engage with global Kenyans as stakeholders in the future of the nation.
