Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his political reawakening with a strategic meeting at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County, where he hosted a delegation from Embu County led by Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji. The engagement is the latest in a series of consultations aimed at consolidating his influence in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Gachagua, who has declared interest in the presidency, reiterated his commitment to inclusive leadership. “At Wamunyoro Residence earlier today, I heard the people of Embu County. I will be with you every step of the way towards a better Kenya where no one is left behind,” he stated, emphasizing his grassroots-driven approach.
The Embu delegation’s visit comes days after former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi led a group of Meru leaders in officially aligning with Gachagua. The wave of support from Mt Kenya East marks a critical endorsement of the former deputy president’s growing political capital despite his removal from office.
On April 29, Gachagua also participated in a high-level meeting in Nairobi with other opposition heavyweights, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, NARC-K’s Martha Karua, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, and former CSs Fred Matiang’i and Justin Muturi. The talks focused on forging a united front for the 2027 elections.
Gachagua noted that while several figures, including himself, are eyeing the presidency, the group remains committed to unity. “I am vying for the presidency, as are Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, and Eugene Wamalwa. We are all looking for votes. In the end, we shall talk and agree to back one candidate. Even if it’s not me, I will support whoever we settle on,” he affirmed.
The meetings reflect Gachagua’s dual strategy: reinforcing his regional stronghold while aligning with national opposition leaders to shape a viable coalition. As political temperatures begin to rise, his activities signal a clear intention to remain a formidable player in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
