Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ramped up his political campaigns as he seeks to solidify support for his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election. On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Gachagua toured Kikuyu and Dagoretti South constituencies, urging residents to back DCP candidates in the upcoming polls.
Addressing enthusiastic crowds, Gachagua called for a political shift in the region, appealing to voters to reject candidates allied with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). “It must be a clean sweep here in Dagoretti and Kikuyu. Those supporting UDA are not with us—we must reject betrayal,” he declared.
The former deputy president emphasized the need for loyalty and fresh leadership, asking residents to elect governors and MPs under the DCP banner. “I want you to ensure that you give me foot soldiers when you elect governors and MPs in 2027,” he said. “Here in Kikuyu and Dagoretti South, I want new and loyal leaders elected under the DCP banner.”
Gachagua’s renewed push comes amid ongoing political realignments in the Mt Kenya region, where he aims to position DCP as a formidable force. He has repeatedly accused Kenya Kwanza allies of betraying the community and called for their rejection at the ballot box.
The Wednesday rally followed Gachagua’s visit to Kiambu County on Tuesday, June 3, where he made similar appeals. Earlier that day, he chaired a meeting of the DCP National Executive Committee (NEC), which postponed the party’s official launch after failing to secure Kasarani Stadium for the event.
In a press statement, the NEC announced plans to identify an alternative venue during the month of June and promised to inform supporters of the revised launch date.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, Gachagua’s message of betrayal and loyalty is shaping his campaign narrative, with his sights firmly set on expanding DCP’s presence in Parliament and county leadership as part of a broader strategy to challenge President William Ruto’s reelection bid.
