Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that his renewed political push against President William Ruto is fueled by vengeance, insisting his stance is rooted in necessity and a commitment to good governance.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Gachagua emphasized that his opposition to Ruto is about safeguarding the interests of Kenyans rather than pursuing personal grudges. He maintained that his campaign is focused on ending corruption, abductions, and extrajudicial killings, while restoring dignity in public service.
“I don’t think stopping abductions or saying no to extrajudicial killings is revenge. It is humanity. Stopping corruption is not revenge; it’s morality,” Gachagua said. “I am not interested in any revenge. I am interested in good governance, having a country that is working, a happy population.”
The former DP stressed that his vision is of a Kenya where hospitals are well-stocked with medicine, children have access to quality education, and citizens enjoy justice. According to him, this transformation can only be achieved if President Ruto leaves office.
“All I am saying is for that to happen, this man has to exit. It’s not revenge; it’s necessity. I have nothing personal against William Ruto,” he declared.
Gachagua noted that despite facing political humiliation, persecution, and attacks, he remains determined to stand up for Kenyans. He also claimed that Raila Odinga, the Azimio leader, has been “compromised” by his working arrangement with Ruto, while Parliament and Senate, tasked with oversight, have been “captured.”
“Somebody must do it. Raila was compromised, Parliament and Senate have been captured. Someone has to stand up and say no,” Gachagua said.
In addition, the former DP formally announced his bid for the presidency in the 2027 general elections, arguing that he is qualified and already enjoys grassroots support. He dismissed concerns over his impeachment and legal battles, saying the Constitution allows every Kenyan to contest elections until all legal remedies are exhausted.
“I am a candidate for president of the Republic of Kenya. I am qualified, and I will be on the ballot in 2027,” he affirmed.
