Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again taken aim at opposition leader Raila Odinga, this time accusing him of creating two political factions to benefit from either side of government.
Speaking at Jesus Exaltation Church, Bethsaida in Kajiado East on Sunday, Gachagua alleged that the newly unveiled Kenya Moja alliance, spearheaded by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, is not an independent movement but part of Raila’s wider political strategy.
According to the DP, Raila is “too clever” to remain on the sidelines, and has instead set up two groups one to support the Kenya Kwanza administration for financial benefit and another to mount pressure from within.
“Raila is very clever. Don’t be fooled when he says he hasn’t fielded a candidate. He has two groups within the government. One is to extort money by backing it, and the other is to make noise. When he said ODM would not field a candidate, it was because his cheque was late,” Gachagua claimed.
Sifuna, who also serves as ODM Secretary General, has been a divisive figure in recent months. In August, he stirred controversy after suggesting he would quit ODM if the party backed President William Ruto in 2027. He has since teamed up with youthful leaders like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba to push the Kenya Moja agenda.
Despite Gachagua’s claims, Raila has cautioned his supporters against making premature declarations on ODM’s 2027 presidential strategy. During the party’s 20th anniversary, the former Prime Minister hinted that ODM may indeed field a candidate, urging patience until the party makes an official decision.
Sifuna, on the other hand, has consistently denied being anyone’s political project. He has yet to respond to the DP’s latest remarks.
