Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has assured party members of a transparent process in selecting candidates for the 2027 general elections.
On Saturday, September 6, Gachagua said no aspirant would get special treatment, regardless of political status. Every candidate will be considered based on merit, commitment, and the wishes of the people.
“We are committed to fostering a fair and inclusive process that upholds our party values and ensures the best leadership for our future,” he said.
Gachagua made the remarks during a meeting with over 200 aspirants seeking the DCP ticket. He also praised party members for their support during the recent membership drive. He commended their dedication to the party’s philosophy and integrity.
The assurances come after protests in Meru County. Members were unhappy with the removal of Timothy Githinji as County Chairperson. He was replaced by James Mithika. Some members accused the leadership of bias and threatened to quit the party.
“I have noted with concern that this party is no longer transparent. If the chairperson can be changed at night, we may even be denied the party tickets,” said DCP aspirant Benjamin Kimathi. He added, “As much as we love this party, the leaders chosen to represent us in Meru have become biased.”
Gachagua’s message aims to calm tensions within the party. He emphasized merit-based selection and fairness. With the 2027 elections approaching, his call for transparency seeks to unite members under accountable leadership.
