Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to residents of the Mt Kenya region, urging them to remain vigilant against what he described as deliberate efforts to fracture the region’s political unity. Speaking in Boston, United States, on Friday, Gachagua singled out former Presidential Advisor Moses Kuria as a key figure in what he believes is a wider strategy to divide the region ahead of the 2027 general election.
Gachagua alleged that Kuria’s recent political statements and alignments reflect the interests of President William Ruto rather than those of Mt Kenya voters. “When you see a party or an individual like Moses Kuria praising certain ideas or directions, understand that it is aligned with what the President wants,” Gachagua cautioned.
He claimed there is a well-orchestrated plan to split Mt Kenya into two political blocs, a move that he warned could undermine the region’s influence in national politics. “This is not accidental. There is a calculated political strategy to divide Mt Kenya votes into two blocs. Unfortunately, some of our own are being used to achieve this,” he added.
Gachagua maintained that his comments were not meant to fuel internal conflict but to promote awareness and unity within the region. He called on Mt Kenya residents to resist being manipulated by leaders who may be working to further external political agendas. “Mt Kenya must not allow itself to be split by internal forces acting on behalf of external interests,” he said.
The former DP urged the community to focus on long-term political and economic strength rather than short-term political maneuvering. “This is a time for our people to reflect, not to quarrel. Unity is strength, and that is what we must safeguard above all else,” he said.
Gachagua’s remarks come just days after Moses Kuria resigned from his post as senior economic advisor in the Office of the President. Kuria confirmed via X that he had met President Ruto to convey his resignation, which the President “graciously accepted.” His departure has sparked renewed debate over his political intentions and potential future moves.
