Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of betrayal and incompetence in managing the country. Speaking in Murang’a County on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader warned Ruto against sidelining the Mt Kenya region, declaring that he is ready to face him in the 2027 presidential elections.
Gachagua, who has been relatively silent in recent weeks, resurfaced with fiery remarks aimed directly at the Head of State. He referred to Ruto by a new nickname, “Githinji”, accusing him of turning his back on the region that overwhelmingly supported him in the 2022 General Election.
“You, Githinji, we elected you, we loved you, and voted for you. You became the president, but you betrayed us. You lied to us and went ahead to frustrate us,” Gachagua said during the burial of six family members who perished in a tragic road accident.
The former DP lamented that Ruto had resorted to using pro-government Mt Kenya leaders to attack him, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Martha Karua, and former Attorney General Justin Muturi. He warned the President that the region’s anger would be evident in 2027.
“I want to tell Ruto that we are not bad people; you are the one who has made us look like bad people. You will witness our bitterness on August 8, 2027,” he warned.
Gachagua also faulted Ruto’s administration for allegedly interfering with key sectors such as education and health, accusing the President of steering the country in the wrong direction.
His remarks came just two days after President Ruto, while in Kakamega County, accused the opposition of engaging in divisive politics instead of presenting solutions to national issues setting the stage for renewed political tension ahead of 2027.
