Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has hit out at President William Ruto for allegedly turning State House into a campaign tool ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Gakuya said Ruto’s recent invitations of groups of Kenyans to State House amount to early campaigns. He argued that the president was misusing state resources for political gain.
“He can dictate anything because he’s the president. This is total misuse of power. What you are doing is you have started early campaigns,” Gakuya said during a media interview.
Unfinished Government Promises
The legislator further accused the president of focusing on politics instead of service delivery. According to Gakuya, many government programs remain incomplete.
“You have forgotten that there are needy programs you have not fulfilled,” he noted.
Teachers Warned
Gakuya’s remarks came just days after Ruto hosted teachers for the Waalimu Na Rais Forum at State House on September 13, 2025. During the meeting, the president promised employment opportunities for P-1 teachers.
But Gakuya dismissed the pledges, saying they were meant to hoodwink teachers into supporting Ruto.
“That is hoodwinking. Teachers, you must watch your steps. If you get misled and vote based on these promises, it will be upon you,” he warned.
State House Meetings Questioned
The Embakasi North MP also questioned Ruto’s strategy of hosting selected groups at State House. He argued that the president could not meet all Kenyans through such forums.
“The president will not even be able to host 30 percent of Kenyans by the end of his tenure. What about the rest who will never step into State House?” Gakuya asked.
Growing Political Tensions
As the 2027 elections draw closer, opposition voices are intensifying criticism of the president. Gakuya’s remarks highlight growing unease over the use of state machinery in political mobilization.
