Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party chairman Gideon Moi has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering statesman, reformist, and patriot who shaped Kenya’s political and social evolution.
In an emotional message shared on X on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Moi lauded Odinga as one of the most consequential political figures of modern Kenya, noting that his influence transcended generations and political divides.
“Indeed, Mr. Odinga was the most consequential political figure of our time. Throughout his distinguished career as a Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, and Prime Minister, he steered some of the most transformative reforms that reshaped the social and political fabric of our country,” Moi wrote.
He emphasized that Raila Odinga’s legacy lies not just in the offices he held, but in his unwavering selflessness, belief in constitutionalism, and commitment to doing what was right rather than what was popular.
Moi further praised Odinga’s ability to balance conviction with pragmatism, noting that his willingness to build consensus reflected his deep love for national unity and progress.
“He was a man of firm conviction… yet, he was pragmatic enough to build consensus when the country’s unity and progress demanded it,” Moi added.
The KANU chairman extended his condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, their children—Rosemary, Winnie, and Junior—and Dr. Oburu Odinga, describing their loss as a national tragedy.
On a personal note, Moi reflected on his close relationship with the former Prime Minister, calling him a friend, confidant, and mentor whose wisdom and generosity will be deeply missed.
“To attempt to eulogize the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga is to accept the inadequacy of words to capture the depth of his impact, his sacrifices, and his towering influence on our democracy,” he concluded.
Moi said the KANU fraternity stands in prayer and solidarity with the Odinga family as Kenya mourns one of its greatest reformers.
