ODM Party National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has moved to assure supporters that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will not disintegrate following the death of its leader, Raila Odinga.
Speaking during the World Food Day celebrations at Kendu Bay Show Ground, Governor Wanga called for unity among members, emphasizing that the party will remain steadfast and move forward as a cohesive team. She noted that ODM’s founding principles and vision will continue to guide its members as they chart the party’s political future.
Wanga confirmed that preparations are underway for the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations, which will take place in Mombasa as earlier scheduled, despite the ongoing mourning period. “ODM will continue to be a strong political force. We will celebrate our journey, our victories, and the legacy of our leader Raila Odinga,” she said.
The governor also urged ODM members to leverage the party’s influence to negotiate political alliances and opportunities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wanga further acknowledged the appointment of Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga as the acting party leader, praising his leadership in guiding the party through this transition period. She announced that ODM members in Homa Bay County will hold a special memorial service at the Raila Odinga Stadium on Wednesday next week to honor their departed leader.
This assurance comes after ODM’s Central Management Committee (CMC) meeting, where Secretary General Edwin Sifuna reiterated the party’s commitment to uphold Raila Odinga’s legacy of unity and cooperation with the government.
Sifuna also announced that national memorial services will be held in Magarini, Kilifi County, on November 2–3, followed by similar events in Homa Bay and Migori on November 5–6. He confirmed that the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations from November 14–16 will go on as planned, featuring activities to reinforce ODM’s unity and solidarity.
