Kisii Governor Simba Arati has praised President William Ruto for his efforts to strengthen the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging him to take a bold step by officially joining the party.
Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Marani Grounds in Kisii County, Arati who also serves as ODM’s Deputy Party Leader said Ruto’s membership would be instrumental in fulfilling the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s vision of building a strong, united political movement dedicated to serving Kenyans.
“Mr. President, I urge you to consider registering as a member of ODM. It would help us achieve Baba’s dream of a strong party that delivers effectively to the people,” Arati said.
The governor reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to fielding a presidential candidate in the 2027 General Elections, stating that the party was determined to either form the next government or be part of a winning coalition. He also warned critics who dismissed ODM’s unity drive, insisting the party’s foundation remained strong even after Raila’s passing.
During the event, Kisii County Commissioner Joseph Kibet raised concern over the low voter registration turnout in the region. He urged eligible citizens to register before the deadline and warned those engaging in drug trafficking and illicit brews that the government would take stern action against them.
Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kisii were marked by a sombre mood as residents joined the nation in mourning the late Raila Odinga. A moment of silence was observed in his honour as the national flag flew at half-mast.
Governor Arati described Raila as a visionary leader, a champion of democracy, and a beacon of hope whose legacy would continue to inspire generations. He pledged that ODM would carry forward “Baba’s dream” by upholding his ideals of justice, unity, and fairness for all Kenyans.
