Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has criticised Senator Fatuma Dullo for what he termed as the politicisation of recent tragic events in the county, accusing her of inciting public emotions and undermining civil servants.
Speaking during an official visit to Elsa Ntirim in Burat Ward, the Governor dismissed the Senator’s claims made in Parliament regarding growing insecurity in Isiolo. He refuted allegations that recent violent events including the tragic death of a woman and her four children in a house fire and the death of a local blogger were politically motivated.
Guyo explained that preliminary investigations into the Bulapesa incident indicate it was the result of a domestic dispute, while the blogger succumbed to injuries sustained after being hit by a truck. “We would like to tell politicians to stop politicizing everything. According to preliminary findings, the Bulapesa incident was related to a domestic issue, not politics,” he stated.
The Governor further warned that such narratives only serve to destabilise the region’s fragile peace. He accused unnamed political figures of exploiting personal tragedies to gain political mileage, urging leaders to instead collaborate with government officials in delivering essential services.
Guyo also defended civil servants, including the County Commissioner, against attacks made on parliamentary platforms, noting that these officials cannot defend themselves publicly. “Using the Senate to target civil servants is unfair. Let us work together instead of undermining each other,” he urged.
The Governor, who recently survived an impeachment attempt that was quashed by the Senate due to procedural flaws, cautioned his political rivals against seeking power through backdoor methods. “Leadership is earned through the ballot, not shortcuts,” he said firmly.
During the same visit, Guyo inspected two completed water projects implemented under the FLOCCA climate action programme. The projects are supporting over 100 farmers in Elsa Ntirim and have revitalised a local irrigation scheme. According to the County Government, the initiative aims to enhance food production and build resilience among communities affected by climate change, marking a shift towards sustainable rural development.
