Police have confirmed that the gun used in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Were has been linked to a string of other crimes, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. The revelation comes after the Sarsilmaz pistol, identified as the murder weapon, was recovered from the residence of one of the key suspects currently in custody.
According to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, ballistic tests have conclusively tied the weapon to the fatal shooting of the MP and to other previous criminal activities. “The ballistic report we have received unequivocally links the Sarsilmaz pistol, recovered from the residence of one of the suspects, to the fatal shots that took his life. This critical piece of evidence not only identifies the weapon used in this heinous act but also reveals its involvement in a series of other criminal activities,” Kanja stated on Thursday.
Investigators also recovered a bag and a pair of footwear that match the description of items worn by one of the suspects seen at the crime scene. These findings have further strengthened the case against the suspects and added crucial leads in the investigation.
So far, 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with the assassination. Among them is businessman Philip Aroko, who surrendered himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday night. Aroko, however, has denied any involvement in the murder and maintains his innocence.
Inspector General Kanja emphasized that the investigation is making significant progress and assured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring justice. “I want to assure all Kenyans that we are committed to pursuing this investigation with the utmost diligence to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” he said.
The Interior Ministry has urged for calm and patience from the public as the investigation continues. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to uncovering the full truth behind the killing of the legislator and bringing all perpetrators to book.
