Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has called for renewed unity and a redirection of energy toward development after narrowly surviving an impeachment attempt by the County Assembly. Speaking after the Senate dismissed the case against him on a technicality, Guyo described the decision as a powerful affirmation of truth and the will of Isiolo residents.
“With this chapter behind us, we now refocus our energy on what truly matters: driving meaningful development, fostering unity, and fulfilling our shared vision of a thriving Isiolo,” Guyo said. He reaffirmed his commitment to leading Isiolo with integrity, dignity, and renewed zeal.
The Senate’s dismissal of the impeachment was based on preliminary objections raised by Governor Guyo, including claims that a valid impeachment process had not taken place and that a court order barring the proceedings was in force. The Senate upheld the objections, with 31 senators supporting the motion and 12 opposing it.
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu emphasized the importance of adhering to legal procedures in impeachment matters, stating that “justice must be served to all parties,” and cautioning that due process is critical in such proceedings.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who supported the preliminary objection, warned against undermining judicial authority. “It would be the darkest day for any lawyer if court orders are disobeyed,” Sifuna said, noting the legal ambiguity around whether a sitting of the County Assembly had actually occurred on June 26, 2025.
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo echoed calls for fairness and strict adherence to the Constitution in handling such sensitive political processes.
Guyo extended heartfelt thanks to his family, friends, and supporters, attributing the victory to their steadfast belief and prayers. “This victory belongs to all of us,” he said.
As the political dust settles, the governor now hopes to shift focus from the divisive impeachment process to collaborative governance and delivering services to the people of Isiolo. His call for unity signals an attempt to heal political rifts and steer the county toward progress.
