The family of Malava UDA aspirant, Dr. Enock Andanje, has been left in shock following his sudden death on Friday after collapsing at a public event in Bulupi, Kakamega County.
According to his widow, Alice Andanje, a teacher at St. Cecilia Lufumbo Secondary School in Butere, her husband appeared to be in perfect health when he left home that morning. She revealed that the couple had shared breakfast together before he proceeded to attend an empowerment forum for widows presided over by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
“I left later for school, but I received a call around 10 a.m. from one of the people who had accompanied him. The caller said that my husband had collapsed and was rushed to the hospital,” she said. Alice added that she rushed to Oasis Hospital after being told he wanted to speak to her, only to be met with somber faces before doctors broke the devastating news of his passing.
Family members echoed her sentiments, noting that the late Andanje had no known underlying medical conditions. His mother, Selina Musambayi, said she had spoken to him before he left home and he did not complain of any health problems. His elder brother, Francis Kumuti, recalled that Andanje was optimistic about winning the Malava parliamentary seat, while his younger brother, Mark Mukalo, was visibly shaken by the sudden loss.
“Let us be calm and avoid speculations about my brother’s death,” Kumuti urged.
The late Andanje collapsed just as he was entering the empowerment forum, and despite being rushed to Oasis Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Andanje was among the candidates vying for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the upcoming Malava by-election, and his death comes as a huge blow to both his family and supporters.
As the community grapples with the shocking news, tributes continue to pour in for the aspirant who was remembered as a determined leader keen on serving the people of Malava.
