The Ministry of Health has held high-level discussions with representatives from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) to accelerate the implementation of two major health infrastructure projects in Kenya. These include the Paediatric Emergency and Burns Management Centre at Kenyatta National Hospital and the Kisii Cancer Treatment Centre.
The projects are integral components of Kenya’s broader strategy to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and are anchored under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). They are expected to significantly improve the quality and accessibility of specialized healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable populations.

In the meeting, the Ministry expressed a firm commitment to ensuring the successful delivery of both projects. This includes the immediate submission of all outstanding contracts, the rapid commencement of the remaining project phases, and the establishment of a detailed implementation schedule to guarantee timely completion. A key focus of the discussions was enhancing coordination between the Ministry and BADEA, with both sides reaffirming their mutual goal of impactful and sustainable health sector development.
The delegation from BADEA was led by Dr. Abdullah Almusaibeeh, and the talks centered on deepening the existing partnership to ensure efficient delivery of healthcare infrastructure. The Health Ministry emphasized that these initiatives are more than construction projects; they are strategic investments in the nation’s health system and a testament to the government’s dedication to delivering equitable and high-quality care.

Officials also praised BADEA’s continued support not just in Kenya but across Africa, where it has played a crucial role in financing infrastructure that fuels socio-economic growth. The projects, once completed, are expected to not only provide specialized care but also create opportunities for training and research in paediatrics, burns treatment, and oncology.
Accompanying the Cabinet Secretary were top health officials including the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, the Chair of the Project Implementation Unit, the CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital, and other senior ministry staff, signaling the high-level commitment behind the initiative.
