Residents of Olando village in Homa Bay County are reeling in shock following a brutal attack that claimed the life of a Form Three student and left her younger brother seriously injured. The horrifying incident occurred late Tuesday night, around 11:30 p.m., when an unidentified man stormed their home and launched a vicious knife attack.
The deceased, identified as Alphins Opuodho, was a student at St Joseph’s Olando Mixed Secondary School. According to local authorities, the assailant is believed to have been her boyfriend. Reports indicate that the two may have had a disagreement earlier in the day, which may have escalated into the fatal attack.
Kibwer Sub-location Assistant Chief Richard Okinyi confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect forcibly entered the house where Alphins and her younger brother, a Grade Six pupil, were sleeping. The assailant stabbed Alphins multiple times on the back and head, killing her on the spot. He then turned his attention to her brother, stabbing him in the hand, abdomen, and head before fleeing the scene.
The commotion alerted nearby residents who responded to the family’s cries for help. Both victims were rushed to Magunga Level Four Hospital. Tragically, Alphins was pronounced dead on arrival, while her brother was admitted in critical condition.
Authorities say the identity of the suspect remains unknown, as the victim’s family had no prior knowledge of him. “We are working closely with the police to trace and apprehend the man behind this heinous act,” said Assistant Chief Okinyi.
The girl’s body has since been moved to St Camillus Hospital Mortuary as investigations continue. The community has been left in mourning, with many expressing outrage over the senseless killing and calling for swift justice.
The incident adds to growing concerns about youth-related violence and the safety of school-going children, particularly in rural areas. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
