Residents of Gwa Chobe village in Kinangop, Nyandarua County are in shock and mourning following the gruesome murder of a Grade 5 pupil whose beheaded body was discovered dumped in a dam on Sunday afternoon.
According to locals, the young girl had been sent by her mother on Saturday to buy household supplies from a nearby shop but never returned home. As hours passed without any sign of her, the family raised the alarm, prompting an overnight search by concerned relatives and neighbours.
Tragically, the search ended in horror when her lifeless body, missing the head, was found floating in a nearby dam. The heinous act has left the village reeling with grief and outrage, with many calling for swift justice.
“We went from homestead to homestead searching for her but could not find her. Only to later find her body, beheaded and dumped in a dam,” said Beth Muthoni, a shaken area resident. “Why would anyone do such a thing to a child?”
The incident has sparked fear among locals, with many now afraid to send their children even to nearby shops. “We cannot live in fear of sending our children out because they might be slaughtered. The government has to intervene and stop this,” said another resident, Susan Njeri.
The girl’s body was retrieved from the dam and taken to the Engineer Sub-County Hospital morgue, where a postmortem is expected to be conducted as investigations begin.
Residents are now demanding urgent intervention from security and investigative agencies to apprehend those responsible and restore safety in the area. Community members have also called for increased patrols, better lighting, and installation of surveillance systems in rural trading centres to deter such acts in the future.
The Nyandarua County police command has yet to issue an official statement, but pressure is mounting as residents demand justice for the young victim and better protection for children.
As investigations continue, the village remains engulfed in mourning, with a dark cloud of fear and heartbreak hanging over Gwa Chobe.
