With preparations for the 2027 General Election gaining momentum, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reactivated its voter verification portal, allowing Kenyans to confirm their registration status easily and conveniently.
The IEBC had temporarily suspended the portal for a maintenance exercise but officially announced its restoration on Tuesday. This update is timely, as the country gears up for the next phase of voter registration, especially with a projected 5.7 million new voters expected to join the electoral roll. This would bring the total number of registered voters to approximately 28 million, up from the 22.1 million recorded during the 2022 general elections.
To verify your voter registration details, the IEBC offers two simple options: SMS and online verification.
For SMS verification, send your national ID or passport number (used during registration) to 70000. You will receive a message confirming your voter registration details, including your full name, county, constituency, and ward.
For a more detailed online check, visit the IEBC’s verification portal at https://verify.iebc.or.ke. Upon entry, input your ID or passport number and your year of birth. The system will then display your full voter details, including:
- Full name
- County name
- Constituency and ward
- Polling centre name
- Polling station name and number (stream)
Additionally, users can download these details as a PDF document for personal records or future reference.
This initiative is critical to ensuring voter roll accuracy and transparency ahead of the 2027 polls. It also offers an opportunity for voters to identify and report any inconsistencies in their records early enough.
The IEBC has urged all registered voters to confirm their details to ensure smooth participation during the upcoming elections. The commission also emphasized that new voter registration drives will soon be rolled out to capture those who have turned 18 or missed previous registration exercises.
Verifying your voter details now is a vital civic duty one that strengthens democracy and ensures your voice is heard in shaping Kenya’s future.
