Huduma Kenya has asked Kenyans to collect thousands of unclaimed documents from its centres.
On Wednesday, September 10, the agency announced that 57,444 driving licences, 22,524 birth certificates, and 82,506 ID cards are already processed and ready.
The documents can be collected at any of the 59 Huduma Centres nationwide.
“Your government documents are ready for collection. Visit any of our 59 Huduma Centres nationwide and pick them today,” Huduma Kenya said.
Processing Timelines
Huduma Kenya has explained the timelines for document processing.
- An ID card takes about two weeks.
- A birth certificate also takes two weeks.
- A smart driving licence takes five days.
For a lost or damaged ID, applicants must use the eCitizen portal and pay Ksh 1,050.
Birth certificate applications also go through the portal. Applicants must upload a birth notification and provide their parents’ ID numbers.
If a certificate has errors, for example a misspelled name, the correction must be done at the Civil Registration office.
Government to Send Digital ID Alerts
The announcement comes days after Isaac Ochieng, Director General of eCitizen Services, shared new plans.
He said the government will soon introduce digital notifications for ready IDs.
In an interview on Thursday, September 4, Ochieng explained that IDs will be linked to birth registration.
When a child turns 18 years, parents will get a text message telling them the ID is ready..
