Mama Ida Odinga, the wife of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting that the former Prime Minister is unwell.
Speaking at an event in Nyanza on Tuesday, Ida assured Kenyans that Raila is in perfect health and urged the public to ignore false reports about his condition.
“Raila Odinga is fine,” she stated firmly, adding that there is no cause for alarm regarding her husband’s well-being. Ida questioned how individuals who do not live with Raila could claim to know about his health, emphasizing that she herself is unaware of any illness.
“Someone who is not staying with him knows that Raila is sick, yet I don’t know,” she said humorously, drawing laughter from attendees.
Her remarks came after widespread speculation online suggested that Raila had fallen ill, sparking concern among his supporters. The ODM family swiftly moved to clarify the situation, assuring the public that their party leader remains active and healthy.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale also confirmed that Raila Odinga is in good health. Etale revealed that he had spoken to the former Prime Minister, describing him as cheerful and in high spirits.
“I have spoken with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga just under five minutes ago. He is jovial and happy. I am seeing people spreading so much propaganda online; let’s keep praying for them,” Etale said, adding that Raila had sent greetings to his supporters.
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in an interview with KTN on October 5, denied involvement in spreading information about Raila’s health. He, however, advised Raila to make public appearances to silence such rumours, citing former President Daniel arap Moi as an example.
Ida Odinga’s reassurance has brought calm to Raila’s supporters, who had been anxious amid the circulating reports. She urged Kenyans to be responsible and avoid spreading unverified information, especially about public figures.
