The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured Kenyans that the country’s elections are safe from manipulation.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, IEBC commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana said it is impossible for any politician to steal an election in Kenya.
“It is not practical, it is not possible for any politician to steal an election in this country,” he said.
Safeguards in the System
Mukhwana explained that the IEBC has put in place strict safeguards to protect the integrity of elections. He added that the commission is ready to give a live demonstration of the process, from polling stations to the national tallying center at Bomas.
He stressed the important role played by election managers and communication staff. According to him, these are the people who ensure everything runs smoothly, yet many Kenyans do not know their work.
“For us as IEBC, it is not possible to steal an election,” he repeated.
Call for Political Unity
The commissioner also addressed post-election disputes. He said most conflicts come from losing candidates refusing to accept results.
He urged leaders to put the country first and accept outcomes with dignity.
“Where there is doubt, it is repeated. The winner takes his win. The loser accepts and tries again,” he said.
Mukhwana encouraged politicians to emulate other countries where rivals shake hands after elections to maintain peace and stability.
Building Public Trust
According to the IEBC, cooperation among leaders and transparency in the voting process will strengthen public confidence in elections.
The commission promised to continue engaging with Kenyans to explain how the system works and to safeguard democracy.
