The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured Kenyans of its readiness to conduct the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon announced that the commission had secured the necessary resources from the National Treasury, paving the way for smooth preparations. He made the remarks during a consultative meeting with representatives of 91 political parties held at Maanzoni Lodge in Machakos County.
Ethekon expressed confidence that the mini-polls would be carried out as planned, noting that earlier budgetary constraints had been resolved.
“We would like to assure the country and the citizens of this beautiful republic of Kenya that all preparations are in top gear. The resources we required to conduct a successful by-election are now available to us,” he said. “Where there were shortages, we had candid discussions with the National Treasury, who have since unlocked the funds. There is no reason whatsoever why the by-elections should not proceed as scheduled.”
To strengthen collaboration, the IEBC, the Political Parties Liaison Committee, and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement will guide future engagements and consultation forums ahead of the November polls.
Ethekon also highlighted discussions with political parties on broader election preparedness. These included not only the by-elections but also voter registration drives and long-term plans for the 2027 General Election.
“This morning and afternoon we had fruitful engagements with our political parties through the liaison committee platform, alongside the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties,” Ethekon explained. “We discussed our levels of preparedness for both the upcoming by-elections and voter registration campaigns that will begin on Monday, September 29.”
With funding secured and an agreement to foster collaboration, IEBC’s assurance is expected to boost confidence among political stakeholders and voters ahead of the November 27 mini-polls.
