The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reported steady progress in its ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with 20,754 new voters registered nationwide by the end of the second week.
In a statement released on Friday, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon said another 3,207 voters had transferred their registration details, while 61 individuals had updated their particulars as of October 8, 2025.
Ethekon reaffirmed that the registration exercise, being conducted across all 290 constituency offices, is part of the Commission’s mandate under Article 88 of the Constitution to maintain an accurate and up-to-date voter register.
“Your participation is vital in strengthening the foundation of free, fair, and credible elections,” he said, thanking Kenyans who have already registered or updated their records.
According to the data, Nairobi County recorded the highest number of new registrations with 4,804, followed by Kiambu (1,203), Mombasa (1,379), Machakos (923), and Kakamega (608). Other notable performances include Murang’a (588), Siaya (564), Busia (427), and Laikipia (165).
Despite the encouraging progress, the IEBC noted that youth turnout remains lower than expected. The Commission has set a national target of 6.3 million new voters ahead of the 2027 General Election, with a focus on young Kenyans who have recently turned 18.
Ethekon urged all eligible citizens to register, stating, “Your vote begins with registration. Your voice matters. Your future depends on it.”
The IEBC also announced biometric system enhancements, now incorporating iris recognition alongside fingerprints and digital photographs to improve voter identification.
The Commission assured Kenyans that all data collected will be securely stored and handled in compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2019, warning that any misuse or unauthorised access will attract legal sanctions.
