The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the official campaign timetable for candidates participating in the upcoming November 27, 2025, by-elections. In a statement released on Thursday, October 9, the commission directed all contestants to adhere strictly to the 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. campaign schedule.
According to the IEBC, the campaign period will conclude on Monday, November 24, exactly 48 hours before the by-election day, in line with the Elections Act provisions. The electoral body confirmed that the registration of candidates is nearing completion in the 24 electoral areas where the by-elections will take place, marking the official start of the campaign season.
“Candidates are commencing campaigns upon successful registration by the respective Returning Officers,” the IEBC noted, emphasizing compliance with the stipulated hours and timelines.
The by-elections will be held across county assembly, constituency, and senatorial levels, filling positions left vacant due to various reasons, including resignations, deaths, and nullifications.
Vacant Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats include Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), Kisa East (Kakamega), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Purko (Kajiado), and Tembelio (Uasin Gishu).
Additionally, there will be by-elections for the Baringo Senatorial seat and Member of Parliament seats in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies.
Among the cleared candidates are Boyd Were, son of former Kasipul MP Charles Were, and Seth Panyako, the Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary General, contesting in Kasipul and Malava, respectively.
Meanwhile, political tensions are simmering within the opposition coalition after DAP-K threatened to exit if Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP fails to withdraw its candidate, Edgar Busiega, from the Malava race. However, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala insisted the party is determined to clinch its first MP seat in Parliament through the by-election.
