Nairobi police have launched investigations into the sudden death of a 68-year-old South African national, Mark Nalon Minter, who was found unresponsive in the toilet of an apartment in Parklands, Nairobi, on the morning of Wednesday, May 7.
Minter had reportedly arrived in Kenya on May 1 for a business trip and was scheduled to depart on May 10. He was staying in the company of a female companion at the time of the incident. According to police reports, the woman told officers that the two had dinner together before retiring to bed. However, when she woke up the next morning, she found Minter missing from the bedroom and later discovered his lifeless body in the bathroom.
Emergency responders from St John’s Ambulance confirmed that Minter was already dead upon arrival. Preliminary examinations revealed a visible injury on his forehead, believed to have resulted from a fall. A number of prescription drugs used to manage hypertension and diabetes were found in his bag, suggesting he may have had underlying health conditions.
The woman was questioned by police and released as investigations continue. Authorities are awaiting postmortem results to establish the exact cause of death. The body was moved to the City mortuary for further examination.
In a separate incident in Kuria, Migori County, police are investigating the brutal murder of a man following a domestic dispute. The body of Chacha Marwa was discovered at the entrance of his home, bearing severe injuries allegedly inflicted by his brother.
Police reports indicate Marwa suffered two deep cuts to the right side of his head, a stab wound to the stomach, and another cut on the shoulder. The suspect, who had locked himself inside a room in the homestead, was later arrested. The alleged murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
Authorities suspect that a dispute over land could have been the motive behind the attack. Marwa’s body was taken to Wima Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to aid the ongoing investigations.
Both cases remain under police probe as authorities work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
