Isiolo County Assembly Clerk Salad Boru Gutracha has firmly refuted reports that Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has been impeached, labelling the claims as “misleading and inaccurate.”
In a statement released Thursday evening, Gutracha clarified that the Assembly had neither convened nor facilitated any sitting on June 26 to initiate or advance impeachment proceedings against the governor.
“No such sitting has been convened, held, or facilitated by this office,” Gutracha stated, dismissing reports that 16 out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) held a closed-door session to impeach Guyo. The motion was allegedly tabled by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana and cited grounds of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and constitutional violations.
Gutracha maintained that there are active court orders restraining the Assembly from proceeding with any impeachment process against the governor. “There are explicit court orders prohibiting the County Assembly from advancing the impeachment proceedings at this time. The Assembly is fully bound by these orders and remains committed to upholding the rule of law and constitutional due processes,” he said.
He also clarified that his office had not issued any notice, order paper, or deployed staff to facilitate a session regarding the matter. “This office has not facilitated any proceedings formal or informal on the issue,” he emphasised, warning the public against spreading unverified information.
The Clerk underscored that the impeachment of a governor is a solemn constitutional matter that must follow legal procedures. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, legality, and respect for judicial directives.
Governor Guyo had earlier issued a strong denial, calling the alleged impeachment vote “null and void.” His office stated that the process lacked legal and procedural merit, and disregarded his constitutional right to a fair hearing under Article 50.
As the political tension unfolds, both the Clerk and the Governor’s office have urged the public and stakeholders to rely on official communication and respect the rule of law. The situation remains fluid as legal and political observers watch for any developments.
