Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Abdi Hassan Guyo has strongly dismissed a directive by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) ordering his arrest, describing it as a political witch-hunt aimed at tarnishing his image.
In a statement shared on his X account on Friday, September 5, 2025, Governor Guyo said the accusations linking him and seven others to kidnapping and robbery with violence were baseless and politically motivated.
“I wish to make it clear that these reports are baseless, politically motivated, and clearly intended to intimidate and silence us,” Guyo stated. He emphasized that throughout his personal and political life, he had never been arrested or associated with criminal activity.
The governor, who said he was raised as an orphan, stressed that he has always conducted himself with dignity, respect for the rule of law, and a commitment to public service. He dismissed the allegations as part of a smear campaign deliberately designed to discredit him as the Governor of Isiolo.
Guyo further revealed that on August 27, 2025, the Kiambu Law Courts issued an anticipatory order restraining both the ODPP and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from arresting or harassing him and his colleagues until the case is heard and determined.
He urged Isiolo residents and his supporters to remain calm, assuring them that he remains focused on fulfilling his duties. “No smear campaign will derail our collective progress,” he declared.
The ODPP, in its earlier statement, linked Guyo and the co-accused to an incident in Maanzoni, Machakos County, on June 19, 2025, and directed the DCI to charge them with kidnapping with intent to cause grievous harm and robbery with violence.
