A scheduled public participation exercise regarding the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been cancelled following a court order. Isiolo County Assembly Clerk Salad Boru Guracha confirmed the cancellation in a notice issued on Monday, citing a High Court directive suspending the entire impeachment process.
The County Assembly had initially announced the exercise on June 14, with plans to gather residents’ views on the impeachment motion in various wards on June 18. However, the High Court in Isiolo, presided over by Justice Heston Nyaga, halted the process pending the hearing and determination of a petition filed by Governor Guyo.
Justice Nyaga said the application raised serious issues warranting urgent intervention. He issued a conservatory order preventing the County Assembly and its agents from admitting, debating, or considering the impeachment motion dated June 10, 2025. The order remains in effect until the court hears the application inter partes.
Guyo, who has sued the County Assembly and Speaker Mohamed Roba, challenged the legality and motive behind the impeachment. The court directed the third respondent to furnish him with the notice of motion and all supporting documentation within 48 hours.
The Assembly now has seven days to file their responses, with Guyo allowed to submit supplementary affidavits within three days of receiving them.
The impeachment motion was tabled by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana and received unanimous support from all 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs). The motion accuses Governor Guyo of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violations of the Constitution and other laws.
The County Assembly had already initiated preparations for public engagement, led by Speaker Roba, when the court issued its orders.
This development has temporarily stalled what would have been a high-profile political showdown in Isiolo County. With the legal process now taking center stage, the fate of Governor Guyo hinges on how the courts interpret the impeachment motion and related procedural matters.
The case is expected to proceed in the coming days, with both parties gearing up for a legal battle that could set a precedent in the region’s governance.
