Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohammed Roba wants the case against Governor Abdi Guyo fast-tracked. He says justice has been delayed for former Health Chief Officer Abdirahaman Mohamed, who was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted.
DPP Ordered Arrests
On September 5, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed police to arrest Governor Guyo and seven others. They face accusations of kidnapping, robbery with violence, and assault.
The case stems from an August meeting. Governor Guyo and his supporters are accused of storming the venue, disarming Abdirahaman Mohamed, attacking him, and bundling him into a vehicle.
Speaker Roba Criticizes Delay
Speaking in Garsen, Tana River County, on Monday, Speaker Roba said authorities are ignoring the DPP’s directive. He noted that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had already completed its work and submitted the file.
“My message is to President William Ruto. When we began impeachment proceedings, the governor abducted his former Chief Officer,” Roba stated.
He said the continued delay raises questions about accountability in the justice system.
Call for Presidential Action
Roba appealed directly to President Ruto to intervene.
“We know you have the capacity to act, Mr. President. We humbly ask you to ensure the former Chief Officer gets the justice he deserves,” he said.
Political Tension in Isiolo
The case has deepened political divisions in Isiolo. Speaker Roba insists the law must be applied equally to all leaders, no matter their position.
If Governor Guyo is arrested and prosecuted, it will test the government’s commitment to fighting impunity and protecting the rule of law.
