Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has confirmed that preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations are complete, with Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County fully ready to host the national event on Monday, October 20.
Speaking ahead of the celebrations, PS Omollo described the newly completed stadium as “a symbol of national unity and progress,” noting that it represents Kenya’s continued journey of growth and togetherness.
“As the nation celebrates the life and legacy of one of its greatest heroes, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, a true Shujaa whose courage and conviction shaped Kenya’s destiny, the spirit of endurance he championed lives on in government projects that unite and uplift our people,” said Omollo.
He emphasized that Ithookwe Stadium is more than just a venue for national events it will remain a centre for sporting excellence, cultural expression, and youth empowerment. “Beyond the celebrations, Ithookwe will be a home for sporting excellence and a platform for young people to explore their talents and realize their potential,” he added.
The Principal Secretary highlighted that the facility will open doors for athletes to train, compete, and shine, both locally and internationally.
Omollo further pointed out that the new stadium will stimulate economic growth in Kitui County, benefiting local enterprises and service providers. “The stadium will breathe new life into the local economy, energizing small businesses, hospitality, and transport sectors, transforming Kitui into a vibrant hub of talent, unity, and progress,” he said.
With final touches completed, the government has assured Kenyans that Ithookwe Stadium meets all national standards and is fully equipped to host dignitaries, guests, and thousands of citizens expected to attend the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
