Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has expressed confidence that President William Ruto is firmly on track to secure re-election in the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an interview with radio presenter Alex Mwakideu, the first-time MP asserted that Ruto’s development record and commitment to delivering on his campaign promises have solidified his political strength.
“President William Ruto will be re-elected by a wide margin. I haven’t seen anyone who can defeat him,” Jalang’o said, noting that the president has shown exceptional resilience and performance over the past two and a half years.
Jalang’o, who has faced political criticism for working closely with the Kenya Kwanza government despite being elected on an ODM ticket, emphasized that his support for the president is not rooted in party loyalty or political alignment, but in observable progress on the ground. He pointed to various development projects and fulfilled pledges as clear indicators of Ruto’s capability and commitment.
“Ruto going home is going to be hard, and getting him from that seat is going to be harder,” he added, highlighting that leadership should be judged by delivery rather than emotional or partisan considerations.
His remarks come at a time when Kenya’s political atmosphere is gradually heating up, with the opposition and other political actors beginning to strategize for the 2027 polls. While there have been talks of new opposition candidates emerging, Jalang’o argued that none have shown the national appeal or momentum needed to mount a serious challenge against Ruto.
The MP maintained that the focus should shift away from political rhetoric and towards tangible development, insisting that Kenyans will vote based on performance.
As speculation grows around potential challengers, Jalang’o’s bold stance reinforces the growing narrative among some leaders that President Ruto’s development-focused governance may earn him a second term unless a strong alternative emerges with a clear and convincing vision for the country.
