Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has broken his silence after Members of Parliament from the county failed to attend Rigathi Gachagua’s recent meeting.
Speaking on Friday, September 12, 2025, Nyutu clarified that the meeting was not meant for MPs. Instead, it was a county assembly matter.
Why MPs Were Absent
According to Nyutu, the only reason he attended was because the Senate seat is tied to the assembly. He explained that other leaders had no role in the gathering.
“To all Murang’a leaders and the whole assembly, it was an assembly matter, which is why they invited me as the senator of the county,” he said.
Nyutu insisted that his position in the Senate gave him the mandate to represent the county in such discussions.
Clash With State House
The senator also used the moment to criticize President William Ruto. He accused the Head of State of organizing a competing event at State House on the same day.
Nyutu claimed that over 4,000 Murang’a residents were mobilized for the event. He suggested the move was an attempt to weaken Gachagua’s growing influence.
“President William Ruto doesn’t need to call people to the State House to know what Murang’a needs. He called people to the State House to bribe them in an attempt to sway them from Gachagua’s camp,” Nyutu alleged.
Murang’a Politics Remain Divided
The senator’s remarks highlight the widening rift in Murang’a politics. Leaders are increasingly split between supporting Gachagua or aligning with State House.
With Murang’a shaping up as a key political battleground, Nyutu’s strong words show that the contest between the two camps is far from over.
As Gachagua builds his Democracy for Citizens’ Party, his rivalry with President Ruto is expected to dominate local and national politics in the months ahead.
