The Jubilee Party is set to hold a special retreat beginning Thursday to streamline its communication strategy following a warning from former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking during an interview with TV47 on Tuesday evening, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni said the retreat aims to enhance internal communication and ensure messaging from the party is clear, unified, and issue-based.
Kioni explained that Uhuru’s recent remarks during a party meeting were not meant as a rebuke but as a reminder of the importance of proper communication within the outfit. “What the former President meant was our ability to communicate, and now we know that communication should come from one person who is our party spokesperson,” Kioni clarified.
He noted that the upcoming retreat will help the party design a structured communication framework that focuses on addressing issues affecting Kenyans rather than engaging in political confrontations. “The day after tomorrow, we will have a retreat so that we can agree on the way to communicate,” he added.
Kioni acknowledged that since the 2022 General Election, the Jubilee Party has faced internal wrangles that disrupted its communication strategy. He attributed part of the confusion to attempts by unnamed individuals to take over the party illegally. “Since we completed the 2022 elections, we have been on a journey, and I know the challenges we have been facing in the Jubilee Party,” he said.
His remarks came days after Uhuru Kenyatta publicly cautioned him and other party members against hurling insults at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking in Murang’a on November 7, Uhuru urged his team to embrace respectful discourse. “I will not tolerate abuse from others in my party,” Uhuru warned.
The retreat marks a renewed effort by the Jubilee Party to rebuild unity and credibility as it repositions itself in Kenya’s changing political landscape.
