Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has broken his silence following what he describes as a harrowing abduction ordeal on May 25, 2025. Speaking from Karen Hospital where he is receiving treatment, Koimburi refuted claims by the National Police Service (NPS) that the incident was staged, insisting he was genuinely abducted by unknown individuals.
Koimburi recounted being accosted and blindfolded by assailants outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County, while accompanied by his wife, who sustained injuries during the scuffle. He said he was later abandoned in a coffee plantation and was rescued the following day by a boda boda rider who alerted his family.
“I was coming from the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya when I was attacked. They asphyxiated and blindfolded me. I found myself in a coffee plantation the next day,” Koimburi said.
The MP expressed deep gratitude to those who aided in his rescue and to the medical staff attending to him. He described the ordeal as a reflection of the increasing insecurity in Kenya, calling on the government to take urgent action against criminal gangs.
“I condemn this act and all the disasters caused by thugs roaming freely in Kenya. It is a tragedy. I urge Kenyans to continue praying for our country and for peace,” he said.
However, the NPS has dismissed Koimburi’s claims as political theatrics aimed at avoiding arrest in connection to an ongoing land fraud probe. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stated that investigations showed inconsistencies in Koimburi’s narrative and no evidence of a kidnapping at the alleged scene.
DCI boss Amin Mohamed also accused the MP of fabricating the incident for political mileage, pointing to discrepancies between his movements and the account he provided.
Despite this, several leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, have defended Koimburi, insisting his injuries prove he was tortured.
Meanwhile, police have arrested Kanyenyaini MCA Grace Nduta and three others in connection to the alleged staged abduction. Nduta has been detained for 14 days as investigations continue.
