Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has issued a passionate appeal to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to fast-track investigations into the murder of Kisa East Ward MCA Stephen Maloba, who was fatally stabbed during a political rally in April 2023.
Speaking during a church service at Mundaha Church of God in Kisa East Ward, Khwisero Constituency, Governor Barasa expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in the case. Two years since the tragic incident, no arrests have been made, a situation that has left the community and Maloba’s family in anguish.
“We still want to know the truth. I will follow up with the national government to ensure justice is served for Stephen. It is now two years and no one has been arrested. We want justice for Mheshimiwa Stephen Maloba,” said the governor.
Barasa reaffirmed his unwavering support for Maloba’s family and the residents of Kisa East Ward, pledging to stand with them in their relentless pursuit of justice.
The late MCA met his untimely death on April 1, 2023, during a political rally convened by area MP Christopher Aseka at Munjiti in Khwisero. Eyewitnesses reported that chaos erupted when Maloba attempted to address the gathering. He was attacked by knife-wielding individuals who allegedly tried to block him from speaking.
Maloba suffered a stab wound to the chest and was rushed to Vihiga County Referral Hospital in Mbale. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The unresolved murder continues to cast a shadow over the political landscape in Khwisero, with calls for accountability and justice growing louder. Residents have repeatedly demanded transparency and speed in investigations, fearing that justice may be delayed indefinitely.
Governor Barasa’s renewed plea underscores the community’s determination to keep the memory of the late MCA alive and ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to book. The call now lies with investigative authorities to act decisively and restore public confidence in the rule of law.
