Ten suspects have been arrested in Kakamega after an attack on a police post. The group stormed the facility, raided an officer’s house, and destroyed public documents and personal property.
The arrests took place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Officers from Matungu Police Station, working together with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), led the operation. The suspects are now in custody and will face charges in court.
Police Response
The National Police Service (NPS) strongly condemned the incident. In a statement, NPS warned that violence against police officers and facilities will not be tolerated.
They also cautioned that anyone who interferes with officers on duty or damages government property will face swift action. Instead, NPS urged members of the public to resolve grievances through lawful channels.
Rising Gang Activity
The attack comes as security agencies raise concern about the rise of gang activity in the region.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, in Butere, police officers were attacked during a security operation. A gang armed with pangas and blunt objects tried to cause harm. Officers fired in the air to disperse them, forcing the group to flee. Investigations are still underway to track the suspects.
In Nairobi, police are also battling gangs operating in poorly lit areas of the central business district. The gangs have been targeting unsuspecting residents through muggings and robberies.
Maintaining Security
The recent incidents highlight the growing threat of gang violence. Police have reassured the public of their commitment to safety. They promised tougher action against criminal groups while urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
